HarrisonParrott Artists at Baltic Sea Festival 2018
17/8/2018
Three HarrisonParrott artists take part in this year’s Baltic Sea Festival.
Martin Fröst, Esa-Pekka Salonen and Jesper Nordin, together with the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, present the première of Nordin’s new composition Emerging from Currents and Waves at the Festival. During the performance, Fröst and Salonen’s roles will be expanded using Jesper Nordin’s invention — the Gestrument (“gesture instrument”), a digital compositional tool and motion-based virtual instrument. In addition to being a soloist and conductor, they will control the virtual orchestra and the interactive light installation that hangs above the stage. With advanced technology and choreography by Virpi Pahkinen the audience will have the opportunity to experience an extraordinary performance. The concert will take place in Stockholm on 31 August, at the Berwaldhallen Concert Hall.

After numerous sell-out performances of the world premiere in Helsinki last season, conductor Dalia Stasevska and Finnish National Opera will take Sebastian Fagerlund’s Höstsonaten / Autumn Sonata to the Festival in Stockholm, in a one-off concert performance on 27 August. Inspired by Ingmar Bergman’s 1979 film of the same name, the opera features mezzo-soprano Anne Sofie von Otter reprising her leading role of Charlotte Andergast, described by the Financial Times in their five-star review as “a characterisation that relies as much on the Swedish mezzo’s own star aura as on her remarkably versatile voice.”
