Jean-Yves Thibaudet returns to his hometown of Lyon as this season’s Artist in Residence with the Orchestre National de Lyon.
His residency begins with performances of Messiaen’s Turangalila Symphony with Susanna Mälkki on15&16 November, a work the pair performed with Los Angeles Philharmonic earlier in the season. In the same week Thibaudet appears in recital with Midori, performing works by Schumann, Faure, Debussy and Enescu on 17 November.
In February, Thibaudet returns for performances of Grieg’s piano concerto in A minor with Nikolai Szeps-Znaider on 20&21February, which will then be taking on tour to Moscow, St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg and Perm.
Thibaudet closes his residency in June where he will perform Gershwin’s piano concerto in F with Leonard Slatkin in Lyon on 4&6 June and Bad Kissingen on 21 June as part of the conductor’s 75th birthday celebrations. Thibaudet will also perform an evening of jazz repertoire at Le Sucre on 5 June and a recital with musicians from the orchestra featuring works by Mendelssohn and Ravel on 7 June.
