Arts Partnerships & Tours head to Europe and Asia this September

Europe and Asia are the destinations for our Creative Partnerships & Tours team this September, performing in both festivals and recitals
On 1 September, O/Modernt Chamber Orchestra travel to Helsinki Festival in Finland to present a concert on the theme of Cosmic Spaces.
Joined by orchestra director and violinist Hugo Ticciati, along with Jörgen van Rijen on trombone, and percussionist Johan Bridger, their programme follows the motto from composer John Cage: “Invent the past. Revise the future”.
Connecting music from Arvo Pärt with the music of British musician Sting and Renaissance composer Josquin des Prez and other visionaries, O/Modernt’s programme takes inspiration from the past and sets new directions for the future.
Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Music Director Jaap van Zweden, travel to Eastern China this September to celebrate the orchestra’s 50th anniversary in an all-Mendelssohn programme on 1 September at Jiangsu Centre for the Performing Arts, then travel downstream to Shanghai, where the second concert takes place on 2 September at the Oriental Arts Centre.
It is a busy George Enescu Festival for our Creative Partnerships and Tours team. Firstly, on 1 September, Ensemble Intercontemporain and Music Director Pierre Bleuse perform a programme celebrating the works of Ligeti, including his Chamber Concerto for 13 instrumentalists. Pierre Bleuse and the Ensemble will also perform a concert in Timișoara at Banatul Timișoara Philharmonic Hall on 3 September.
Gothenburg Symphony travels to the festival for two concerts. They perform with conductor Gustavo Gimeno on 8 September and then the following day they join their Chief Conductor Santtu-Matias Rouvali and pianist Leif Ove Andsnes for Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 5, Boulanger’s D’un matin de printemps and Stravinsky’s Petrushka Suite.
Franz Liszt Chamber Orchestra is joined by Pierre-Laurent Aimard in Bartók’s Piano Concerto No.3 under István Várdai’s baton on 8 September in Bucharest and on 9 September in Sibiu.
On 12 September, Patricia Kopatchinskaja and Camerata Bern join forces once again for a specially created programme on the meditation on death. Patricia Kopatchinskaja will perform as narrator and soloist the following day at the Romanian Athenaeum for a programme of Bach, Schoenberg and Strauss, followed by a concert at Banatul Philharmonic of Timișoara on the 14 September.
Le Balcon and Musical Director Maxime Pascal take on Messiaen’s Saint François d’Assise at this year’s festival on 20 September.
Manchester Camerata concludes our time at this year’s Enescu Festival with two final concerts. First, on 18 September, they are joined by star saxophonist Jess Gillam and fellow HP artist Jean-Efflam Bavouzet for a programme of Michael Nyman’s Where the Bee Dances and Mozart’s Concerto for Two Pianos and Orchestra, alongside collaborator Alexandra Dariescu. They then follow this with a concert on 20 September at Banatul Timișoara Philharmonic Hall.
London Philharmonic Orchestra opens the Ghent Festival of Flanders on 18 September at St. Bavo’s Cathedral. Under the baton of Chief Conductor Edward Gardner, the orchestra journeys across the Channel for a performance of Mahler’s mighty Symphony No.5 and Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy’s Overture ‘The Hebrides’.
