25/9/2015
This week marks the beginning of Paavo Järvi’s tenure as the new Chief Conductor of NHK Symphony Orchestra. For his inaugural concert on 3 October he conducts Mahler’s Symphony No.2 with soloists Erin Wall and Lilli Paasikivi.
Over the next few weeks Järvi will lead the orchestra in an all French-programme with Jean-Yves Thibaudet at the NHK Music Hall (8 October), as well as performances of Shostakovich’s Violin Concerto No.1 with Midori and Bartók’s Concerto for Orchestra (23 & 24 October). He will also conduct an all Strauss programme including Don Quixote with Truls Mørk at Suntory Hall (14 and 15 October).
Järvi and the orchestra will focus on Strauss in the coming seasons and have just released the first in a series of Strauss discs on Sony Japan.
