Olivia Belli’s New Work Premieres at BBC Proms with Anna Lapwood

At the BBC Proms on 25 July, a new organ work by Olivia Belli entitled Limina Luminis receives its world premiere by Anna Lapwood. The work, commissioned by the Proms, is presented within a late-night programme of organ music entitled ‘Moon and Stars’ that also includes repertoire by Philip Glass, Hans Zimmer and Debussy.

“Limina Luminis [Threshold of Light] is a metaphorical and spiritual journey towards light which for me represents the symbol of knowledge and understanding. It may compare to the ‘Overview Effect’… the dramatic change of perspective that occurs during space travel in Earth’s orbit or towards the Moon, when our world suddenly appears as a fragile sphere in the immensity of the Universe.”
