Katarina Dalayman’s return to mezzo-soprano
After a hugely successful soprano career, Katarina Dalayman has returned to her original mezzo-soprano roots. Kundry (Parsifal), Brangäne (Tristan und Isolde) and Judith (Duke Bluebeard’s Castle) have always been part of the repertoire, but recent role additions include Fricka (Ring Cycle), Kostelnička (Jenůfa), Herodias (Salome), Klytaemnestra (Elektra), Amneris (Aida) and Foreign Princess (Rusalka).
“Of the protagonists, only Katarina Dalayman as Kundry retains her lustre…No one else matches her combination of intensity and vocal security.” The Guardian
“Katarina Dalayman’s Kundry was the Prom’s other clinching performance and, equally vividly, it jumps off the recording. Her voice projects Kundry’s weird, conflicted psychology brilliantly” Classical Source
“her interpretation of Klytaemnestra was intense and believable: she was composed one moment, the next moment she was completely broken,” Bachtrack
“The ease with which the voice has evolved and homogeneously developed in the lower registers validates her switch to more mezzo roles.” Forum Opéra
“Not just because she had the glamorous advantage, the star of the evening was Katarina Dalayman’s Amneris in a performance of intensity and smooth, rich tone that got darker the lower it went.” Opera
“Katarina Dalayman as Fricka charted every blow in their marital argument…regal and opulent of voice,” Bachtrack
