Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra embarks on a major European tour in January 2026 under the baton of Klaus Mäkelä, with violinist Lisa Batiashvili appearing as soloist in selected concerts.
The tour opens at Hamburg’s Elbphilharmonie on 17 January, where Mäkelä conducts Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto with Batiashvili, alongside Shostakovich’s Symphony No.8. The following evening, 18 January, the orchestra returns to the same venue for Sibelius’ Violin Concerto and his evocative Lemminkäinen Suite (Four Legends from the Kalevala).
On 20 January, Philharmonie de Paris hosts a compelling programme of Shostakovich’s Symphony No.6 and 8, before the orchestra travels to Vienna for two performances at the Wiener Konzerthaus. The first, on 22 January, reunites Mäkelä and Batiashvili once more for Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto, paired with Shostakovich’s Symphony No.8. The second, on 23 January, features Shostakovich’s Symphony No.6 and Sibelius’ Lemminkäinen Suite.
The tour concludes on 24 January at the Philharmonie Essen, where Mäkelä and Batiashvili once again collaborate on Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto, followed by Shostakovich’s Symphony No.8.
