Karita Mattila makes her first appearance as Janáček’s Kabanicha at Staatsoper unter den Linden in Andrea Breth’s production of Katya Kabanova. Thomas Guggeis conducts performances from 10 October 2019.

Further new roles follow later this season with Ortrud in Richard Jones’ production of Lohengrin at Bayerische Staatsoper under Lothar Koenigs. Ms Mattila returns to the Royal Opera House Covent Garden and to her critically acclaimed role of Kostelnička (Jenůfa) under Vladimir Jurowski in a new production by Claus Guth and makes her highly anticipated debut as Klytaemnestra (Elektra) conducted by Antonio Pappano in a new production by Christoph Loy.
