Sakari Oramo renews contract with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra

The Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra announced at its 2016/17 season launch in Stockholm today that it has extended Sakari Oramo​’s contract as Chief Conductor and Artistic Advisor until June 2020.

Oramo joined the orchestra in 2008 and since then their partnership has been celebrated both at home in Sweden and internationally. The 2015/16 season has seen them give a critically acclaimed European tour which included concerts in Vienna, Cologne and Hamburg and win a BBC Music Magazine Award for their recording of Nielsen’s Symphonies No.1 & 3 on the BIS label.

Next season sees the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra and Sakari Oramo perform new repertoire at home in Stockholm including the world premiere of Anders Hillborg’s Violin Concerto No.2 with Lisa Batiashvili. They will also appear internationally; with a concert tour in the Baltic region and a performance at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam.
