Camilla Tilling, Kathleen Kim, Barbara Hannigan and Anne Sofie von Otter are among the winners of the Diapason d’Or awards of 2014 across a number of the DVD categories.

Selected for the Oratorio award is Peter Sellars’ critically acclaimed production of Bach’s St Matthew Passion with Berliner Philharmoniker featuring Camilla Tilling among the soloists. Camilla recently performed in the production again with the orchestra when it came to New York in October.

John Adams’ Nixon in China with the Chorus and Orchestra of the Metropolitan New York, conducted by the composer and again directed by Peter Sellers, has been chosen for the Opera award. Kathleen Kim performs the role of Chiang Ch’ing which led to the following review from The New York Times,“the coloratura soprano Kathleen Kim delivered the skittish, shrieking vocal lines of the malevolent Madame Mao with maniacal intensity.”

George Benjamin’s Written on Skin with the Royal Opera House and featuring Barbara Hannigan as Agńes, wins the award for Contemporary music having previously won the Gramophone Award in the same category earlier this year.

Finally, Anne Sofie von Otter features in the DVD of Refuge in music – Terezín-Theresienstadt on Deutsche Grammophon, which wins the Artistic Project award. The documentary, filmed by Dorothee Binding and Benedict Mirow, is a follow-up to the Terezín CD (also featuring von Otter) released in 2007 on DG to great acclaim, and pays tribute to musicians of the concentration camp Terezín in Prague.

The Diapason d’Or award winners are chosen by critics from the French magazine Diaposon and broadcasters from France Musique.
