Pablo Heras-Casado announced as Principal Guest Conductor at Teatro Real
3/9/2014
Madrid’s Teatro Real has appointed Pablo Heras-Casado as its new Principal Guest Conductor from the current season, with a four-year contract extending though to 2017/18. The role sees him lead one production each season, including Mauricio Sotelo’s El Público in spring 2015.
Heras-Casado made his company debut in 2010, with Kurt Weill’s Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny with La Fura dels Baus, which was filmed for DVD and won the Diapason d’Or. He also led Daniel Catán’s Il Postino with Plácido Domingo in July 2013.
A harmonia mundi and Deutsche Grammophon recording artist, he conducted the new DVD of Rolando Villazón’s production of Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore and was recently awarded an ECHO Klassik for his album of Schubert’s Symphonies Nos.3 & 4 with the Freiburger Barockorchester.
This autumn Heras-Casado – who is also Principal Conductor of Orchestra of St. Luke’s – returns to The Metropolitan Opera for Carmen, following his “exciting and insightful” (New York Times) debut at the house with Rigoletto last season. The final performance will be broadcast live in cinemas worldwide on 1 November.
