
Jimmy López appointed Composer-in-Residence in San Diego and Montreal

Jimmy López has been appointed Composer-in-Residence with Orchestre symphonique de Montréal (OSM) and San Diego Symphony (SDS) for the 2025 – 26 and 2026 – 27 seasons.
Throughout the 2025 – 26 season the orchestras will present works from López’s catalogue. OSM presents the orchestral tone poem Aino conducted by Tomáš Netopil (25 and 27 September), Perú Negro with Music Director Rafael Payare (11 – 12 February), and La Caresse du Couteau for string quartet, performed by OSM musicians at Bourgie Hall, at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts (13 February). SDS with Music Director Payare present López’s Piano Concerto Ephemerae with Javier Perianes (11 – 12 October), and Perú Negro for orchestra (15 – 16 May).
As part of his residencies, López will appear in pre-concert talks and panel discussions and will work closely with the education department of the orchestras to work with local communities and composition students.
San Diego Symphony and Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal have co-commissioned López’s sixth symphony, which is inspired by the migratory patterns of Monarch butterflies and will premiere in the 2026 – 27 season.
