Equilibrium
Equilibrium is an international mentoring initiative founded by Grammy-Award winning Soprano and Conductor Barbara Hannigan. The initiative provides guidance and professional opportunities to musicians, particularly singers in the first substantial phase of their careers. HarrisonParrott is working on networking, fundraising, concert & event production and tour management.
Barbara Hannigan created Equilibrium in 2017, as a way to give back to the younger generation of classical musicians. After commissioning the Equilibrium website and finding initial partner orchestras and presenters, Barbara personally reviewed over 350 Equilibrium applicants from 39 countries, and then held auditions in four major cities across Europe for 125 artists.
Twenty singers, 2 pianists and 3 conductors were selected for the inaugural season of Equilibrium (2018/19), which is comprised of two major projects that involve intensive rehearsal workshops, advice opportunities from top professionals in the concert and opera world, and training with Olympic and top sport performance coach, Jackie Reardon, who created the Friendly Eyes mindset, (where peak performance meets mindfulness), and with whom Barbara has worked for 10 years. Barbara is thrilled to have the generous support and facilities of Le Centquatre in Paris for Equilibrium’s workshops.
The first project is Stravinsky’s opera The Rake’s Progress, supported by leading orchestras and presenters such as Gothenburg Symphony, Münchner Philharmoniker, La Monnaie, Klara Festival and LUDWIG Orchestra. Originally envisioned to be just a few performances, the Rake’s Progress production has struck a chord with so many partners that the project will now have over 15 performances and travel from Sweden to Belgium, Germany, France, England, the Netherlands and even further afield to the prestigious Ojai Festival, California. It will be directed and lit for concert halls by Swedish director/light designer Linus Fellbom.
