Pierre-Laurent Aimard at musica viva in Munich
5/12/2025
This December, Pierre-Laurent Aimard returns to Munich for two exceptional concerts as part of Bayerischer Rundfunk’s musica viva series, one of the world’s leading forums for contemporary music.
On 11 December in Munich’s Herkulessaal, piano meets live electronics as Aimard joins forces with SWR Experimentalstudio. The programme opens with selected preludes and fugues from J. S. Bach’s The Well-Tempered Clavier, Book II; Aimard’s recent recording of these works was highlighted by The New York Times as one of its “5 Classical Music Albums You Can Listen to Right Now.” The concert continues with Mark Andre’s …selig ist…, composed in memory of the “son of a close friend” who died young.
The following evening, 12 December, Aimard returns to the same venue, this time under the baton of his longtime collaborator Sir George Benjamin, for Clara Iannotta’s The purple fuchsia bled upon the ground. This piano concerto – commissioned for and premiered by Aimard with conductor Elena Schwarz and the WDR Sinfonieorchester Köln in 2024 – draws inspiration from the poetry of Dorothy Molloy and reflects Aimard’s enduring dedication to new music.
