Pierre-Laurent Aimard at 92NY

On 19 November, Pierre-Laurent Aimard performs at the beloved New York institution 92NY in a recital that combines Obouhow’s Révélation (1915) — a mystical and rarely heard work by the Russian-born composer — with music by Boulez, Ravel, and his close friend Sir George Benjamin, with whom he shares the stage.
Benjamin’s new 14-minute work, written especially for Aimard, continues their long-standing artistic collaboration. Commissioned by the Boulez Saal, the Dina Koston and Roger Shapiro Fund for New Music in the Library of Congress, and Wigmore Hall, the piece premiered in Berlin at the Boulez Saal this summer and recently received its first UK performance at Wigmore Hall.
Reviewing the London performance, The Guardian wrote: “Divisions packs an enormous amount of concentrated musical thought and pianistic imagination into its 15-minute span.”
The same review also highlighted “Aimard’s performance after the break of Ravel’s graceful 1917 wartime invocation of 18th-century France, Le Tombeau de Couperin,” which The Guardian praised as “further evidence that he remains equal to most challenges and continues to be one of the essential keyboard advocates of our era.”
