NICOLAS ALTSTAEDT ANNOUNCED NEW ARTIST IN ASSOCIATION WITH TAPIOLA SINFONIETTA
15/5/2025
Renowned cellist Nicolas Altstaedt has been announced as Tapiola Sinfonietta’s Artist in Association for the next three years, starting in the 2025/26 season. The internationally renowned Espoo-based chamber orchestra is launching a new “Indie” concert series that enhances the tradition of classical music by incorporating multidisciplinary experiences from other complementary arts forms and unconventional performance techniques, with Altstaedt at the forefront of the series.
“These concerts have no intermission, and professionals from other fields of art, such as directors, visual designers and performance artists, are involved in their planning and implementation” says Maati Rehor, Artistic Director of Tapiola Sinfonietta. “The series will feature two premieres and works that are connected by stories without artistic compromise. Classical music is now getting a new kind of presentation, and we are the first orchestra in Finland to show how an orchestral concert can be something other than what you imagine. […] The concerts give space to modern visuals, choreographies and creative elements, and in recent years we have already approached new ways of performing. The music world is in a state of transition, and new ways of making art have made us think about what an orchestral concert of the future could be.”
Altstaedt will collaborate with Tapiola Sinfonietta in three concerts as the orchestra’s new artistic partner, starting on 25 September. He also appears as a soloist alongside conductor Ryan Bancroft on 11 December.
