In the first of four seasons, Foster presents 10 programmes with the orchestra, including a complete Schumann Symphony Cycle, alongside Liszt’s Piano Concerti with Plamena Mangova, a concert performance of Mozart’s Fidelio, and featuring the music of Enescu, Penderecki, Bacewicz, Bartók, Berlioz, Beethoven, Brahms, Tchaikovsky, Mussorgsky and Prokofiev. He is joined during this first season by soloists Pinchas Zuckermann and Amanda Forsyth, Rudolf Buchbinder, Mihaela Costea, Alexandre Kniazev and Lisa Delan.
During the public press conference in Katowice when he was introduced as the future Music Director, Foster said: “An opportunity to work with this wonderful orchestra is one of the greatest honours in my musical career. (…) I feel a sense of responsibility towards the orchestra and will do my best to maintain its high standard. It will be a big challenge to strike a balance between an international approach and respect for Poland’s illustrious traditions.”
