Gustav Kuhn is Artist of the Year in China
6/11/2015
Gustav Kuhn has been honoured with one of the most renowned awards on the Chinese music scene for his services to music in China. The Beijing Music Festival has named him ‘Artist of the Year’ for his successful first staged performances of Tristan und Isolde and Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg this year and thus the resulting successful efforts in furthering Richard Wagner’s œuvre in China.
Commenting on the decision for the award, Yu Long, Artistic Director of the Beijing Music Festival said: “Thanks to his conducting of Parsifal in October 2013 and the first staged performances of Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg and Tristan this year Maestro Gustav Kuhn has created something that is probably a unique phenomenon throughout the world. Here in China his name is mentioned in the same breath with Richard Wagner’s œuvre.”
