Lawrence Zazzo returns to Oper Frankfurt in the world premiere of Rolf Riehm’s Sirenen
16/9/2014
After a great success last season as Ruggiero in Vivaldi’s Orlando furioso, Lawrence Zazzo returns to Oper Frankfurt in the principle role of Odysseus in the world-premiere of Rolf Riehm’s Sirenen — Bilder Des Begehrens Und Des Vernichtens. This new production by Tobias Heyder, conducted by Martyn Brabbins, opens on 14 September and runs through to 4 October.
An artist equally comfortable in the baroque and the contemporary repertoire, Zazzo is considered one of today’s foremost interpreters of such roles as Handel’s Giulio Cesare and has already created several contemporary characters including Macha in Peter Eötvös’s Three Sisters and the Refugee in Jonathan Dove’s Flight at the Glyndebourne Festival Opera.
October also sees the release of the latest addition to Zazzo’s already extensive discography — A Royal Trio on Harmonia Mundi USA. Together with David Bates and La Nuova Musica this collection brings together selected works written between 1719 and 1729 when the composers Handel, Bononcini, and Ariosti were jointly appointed as composers for operas at the Royal Academy in London.
