Following his success in the Canadian Opera Company’s production of Orfeo ed Euridice, countertenor Lawrence Zazzo returns to join the company as Athamas in Handel’s Semele for their guest appearances at BAM (Brooklyn Academy of Music) in New York.
Conducted by Christopher Moulds, these New York performances mark the US premiere of Director Zhang Huan’s production which originated at the Beijing Music Festival and open on 4 March.
A renowned artist in both the baroque and contemporary repertoire, Zazzo continues to enjoy a diverse schedule of engagements including his recent return to Oper Frankfurt in the principle role of Odysseus in the world premiere of Rolf Riehm’s Sirenen, and his forthcoming Oberon in Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream at this year’s Festival d’Aix-en-Provence.
