It’s a week of residencies for Martin Fröst
16/9/2014
On 16 September Martin Fröst opens his long awaited 2014/15 season residency at the Wigmore Hall, when he will be joined by the Apollon Musagéte Quartet for performances of Mozart’s and Brahms’ Clarinet Quintets. The latter work was recently released on BIS to critical acclaim: International Record Review noted “This performance affirms Fröst’s status as one of the clarinet’s greatest exponents. His spellbinding playing alone is enough to recommend this recording; he and his colleagues also demonstrate penetrating musicianship and deep Brahmsian affinity.”
Fröst recently performed Brahms’ Quintet last week as part of a series of concerts throughout the season with the Gothenburg Symphony, where he will appear as a soloist and also play/direct some of the programmes.
As Artist in Residence at the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, on 19 and 20 September, he performs Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto under Louis Langrée, a work he also released on BIS in 2013 to great success. When commenting on this recording The New York Times noted “Mr. Fröst exhibited a virtuosity and a musicianship unsurpassed by any clarinetist — perhaps any instrumentalist — in my memory”.
