12/5/2014
Nikolai Lugansky undertakes a recital tour of Europe, with a programme of works by Franck, Prokofiev and Rachmaninov.
One of today’s pre-eminent Rachmaninov interpreters, Lugansky performs the Op.32 Preludes in the second half of the programme, which also features Franck’s Prelude, Chorale and Fugue and Prokofiev’s Sonata No.4.
The tour begins on 12 May at the Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest. Lugansky then appears in London’s International Piano Series on 14 May, at Southbank Centre’s Queen Elizabeth Hall. This is followed by a performance at Berlin’s Konzerthaus on 16 May, after which he returns to his native Russia for recitals at the Moscow Conservatoire and St Petersburg Philharmonia on 20 and 23 May respectively.
Lugansky was recently shortlisted for a Royal Philharmonic Society Award as Instrumentalist of the Year. He vies for the award with violinist Patricia Kopatchinskaja and harpsichordist Mahan Esfahani. The winners are announced on 13 May.
