Eric Lu

Eric Lu won the First Prize and coveted Gold Medal at the 2025 Chopin International Competition in Warsaw. He is also the winner of the XIX Leeds International Piano Competition in England. Eric’s always thoughtful, poetically imbued and powerful interpretations have already made him one of the most distinctive artists on the international music scene.

His 2026 – 27 season includes collaborations with the Boston Symphony, Philadelphia Orchestra, Royal Stockholm Philharmonic, Konzerthaus Orchester Berlin, Orchestre Symphonique de Montreal, Hong Kong Philharmonic, Royal Philharmonic, Academy St. Martin in the Fields, Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, working with conductors Ryan Bancroft, Rafael Payare, Jaap Van Zweden, Fabio Luisi, Vasily Petrenko, Xian Zhang, Andris Poga, amongst others. Recitals bring him to Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, Suntory Hall, Amsterdam Concertgebouw, Munich Prinzregententheater, Cologne Philharmonie, KKL Lucerne, Milano Sala Verdi, Klavier Festival Ruhr, Stanford Live, and Festival de La Roque d’Antheron.

Last season saw Eric play sold-out recitals at Barbican Hall London, Vienna Konzerthaus, Prague Rudolfinum Dvorak Hall, Philharmonie Berlin, Tokyo Opera City and Metropolitan Theatre, Flagey Brussels, Seoul Arts Centre and Lotte Hall, Shanghai Symphony Hall, Stuttgart Liederhalle, Essen Philharmonie, amongst others.

Recent seasons’ orchestral collaborations include the Chicago Symphony with Riccardo Muti, London Symphony Orchestra with Marin Alsop, Los Angeles Philharmonic with Ryan Bancroft, NHK Symphony with Fabio Luisi, Orchestre Philharmonique de Luxembourg Philharmonic with Dunca Ward, Finnish Radio Symphony with Tabita Berglund, Seattle Symphony with David Danzmayr, Helsinki Philharmonic with Nuno Coelho, Scottish Chamber Orchestra with Ryan Bancroft, Swedish Chamber Orchestra with Martin Fröst, Singapore Symphony with Kahchun Wong, Yomiuri Nippon Symphony with Kerem Hassan, Shanghai Symphony with Long Yu at the BBC Proms, amongst others. In 2026, Eric appeared for his 8^th consecutive year in recital at Wigmore Hall, and 8^th appearance at Warsaw’s Chopin and his Europe Festival.

Eric’s fourth album on Warner Classics was released in January 2026 featuring Schubert’s Complete Impromptus. It was met with worldwide critical acclaim, with Fonoforum writing, “Eric Lu continually opens up new perspectives on Schubert’s music for us.” His previous album of Schubert Sonatas D. 959 and 784 was met with critical acclaim, receiving BBC Music Magazine’s Instrumental Choice, writing, “Lu’s place among today’s Schubertians is confirmed”. His album of the Chopin 24 Preludes, and Schumann’s Geistervariationen was hailed ‘truly magical’ by International Piano. Deutsche Grammophon released a live album of highlights from the 19^th International Chopin Competition in 2025.

Born in Massachusetts in 1997, Eric Lu is a graduate of the Curtis Institute Music, studying with Robert McDonald and Jonathan Biss. He also studied with Dang Thai Son from 2013 – 2019. Eric was awarded the International German Piano Award in 2017 and Avery Fisher Career Grant in 2021.
