Kicking off the month of May, Markus Stenz returns to Teatro La Fenice with a new production of Kurt Weill’s Protagonist. Following three celebrated performances of the work at Teatro Malibran in Venice, Markus Stenz heads to Florence to lead the new production of Hans Werner Henze’s Der junge Lord at Maggio Musicale di Firenze, with performances on 25, 28 and 31 May 2025. Stenz first met Hans Werner Henze in 1990 when he conducted the Das verratene Meer world premiere at Deutsche Oper Berlin. Henze holds a very special place in his heart from that moment on, leading to a close and long-standing relationship between the two, and Henze’s oeuvre becomes an integral part of Markus’ repertoire. He says, ​“What I love about Henze’s music is the wealth of colours, the characteristic harmonies, the sensuality, the composing from the gut.”
