Just this summer Rachel Kelly made her Glyndebourne Festival debut as Annio in Claus Guth’s new production of La clemenza di Tito conducted by Robin Ticciati, and returns now for her first Dorabella (Così fan tutte). With other Mozart roles in her repertoire such as Idamante in Idomeneo(at Opera di Firenze, and in concert with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla), and Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni (at NI Opera), Rachel reprises Annio for Staatstheater Karlsruhe this season, and elsewhere joins Nationale Reisopera as Medarse (Siroe), and Christian Curnyn as Sesto (Giulio Cesare) in London.
Following his UK operatic debut this summer as Albazar in Rossini’s Il turco in Italia under David Parry at Garsington, Jack Swanson makes his Glyndebourne debut as Conte Almaviva in Annabel Arden’s production of Rossini’s well-loved Il barbiere di Siviglia, conducted by Ben Gernon. A major young talent from the US, Jack returns home this season to sing his first Candide at LA Opera under James Conlon and as well as Lindoro in L’italiana in Algeri at Santa Fe Opera under Corrado Rovaris.
Making his debut in the UK is American baritone Tobias Greenhalgh who joins Jack Swanson in Il barbiere di Siviglia as Figaro. A former member of the Jungesensemble at Theater an der Wien, Tobias returns there in two roles this season: firstly as Cecil in Donizetti’s Maria Stuarda in Christof Loy’s production, then as Demetrius in Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream in Damiano Michieletto’s production conducted by Antonello Manacorda. Elsewhere this season, he debuts at Festival d’Aix as Aeneas (Dido and Aeneas) and returns to Palm Beach Opera as Maximilian (Candide).
