Pablo Heras-Casado extends Principal Conductor contract with Orchestra of St Luke’s
27/5/2014

New York’s Orchestra of St. Luke’s announces that Pablo Heras-Casado‘s contract as Principal Conductor has been extended by two years. Originally appointed for a four-year term in 2011, Heras-Casado will now remain in the post through to September 2017.
In each of the next three seasons Heras-Casado — Musical America’s 2014 Conductor of the Year — will lead two concerts in OSL’s Carnegie Hall Orchestra Series and will continue to conduct the orchestra at its summer home, Caramoor Music Festival. The orchestra also plans to release its first album with Heras-Casado; the forthcoming harmonia mundi recording will include Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No.1 and The Tempest.
The announcement comes as Heras-Casado prepares to conduct the orchestra in two concerts at the New York Philharmonic’s inaugural NY Phil Biennial; Heras-Casado has served as a curatorial collaborator of the Biennial at the invitation of New York Philharmonic Music Director Alan Gilbert. Presented on 31 May and 1 June, the programmes entitled “Circles of Influence” explore the music of Pierre Boulez, George Benjamin and composers that were influenced by them.
Heras-Casado’s other recent appearances in New York include his debuts with The Metropolitan Opera and New York Philharmonic earlier this season. He returns to The Met in September, to conduct Carmen.
