Jonathan McGovern appears in world premiere of Thebans at ENO

Jonathan McGovern returns to English National Opera in the highly anticipated world premiere of Julian Anderson’s Thebans, based on a libretto by Irish playwright Frank McGuiness. Produced by Pierre Audi and conducted by Edward Gardner, the production opens on 3 May and runs until 3 June.
McGovern performs the role of Polynices in a cast of several ENO regulars, including Roland Wood, Susan Bickley and Matthew Best.
Noted for his sensitive musicianship, McGovern’s season highlights include the title role in Rossini’s Il Barbiere di Siviglia for the Verbier Festival Academy, Junior in Bernstein’s A Quiet Place with Kent Nagano and Ensemble Modern, the title role in Monteverdi’s Il ritorno d’Ulisse in patria under Christian Curnyn and forthcoming CD releases of songs by Mendelssohn (Champs Hill) and Debussy (Hyperion) with Malcolm Martineau.
