In his first performances in Australia, renowned Strauss tenor Kim Begley gives his celebrated interpretation of Aegisth in two performances of Elektra in Sydney. The opera is presented in an ambitious concert staging on 22 & 24 February, with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra conducted by Music Director David Robertson. The cast also features Christine Goerke in the title role and Lisa Gasteen as Klytemnestra.
During a career which has spanned more than three decades Begley’s portrayal of Aegisth has brought him huge success, most recently in Robert Carsen’s production at the Opéra national de Paris.
Begley returns to Strauss next season, taking on the role of King Herod in Salomé at the Teatro San Carlo, Naples. The production, conducted by Nicola Luisotti, also stars Catherine Naglestad in the title role.
