“If ever proof was needed that the ethos of an orchestra affects the sound it makes, look no further than the Mahler Chamber Orchestra”
Founded in 1997 with the vision of being a free and international ensemble, the Mahler Chamber Orchestra is a nomadic collective of exceptional musicians, with 45 members of the core ensemble spanning 20 different countries and uniting for specific tours in Europe and across the world.
With a sound characterised by the tight ensemble playing of its alert and independent musical personalities, the MCO’s core repertoire lies in the Viennese Classical and early Romantic periods, while the orchestra also plays contemporary works and world premieres.
HarrisonParrott was delighted to work with the MCO on their tour to China in October 2015.
“But the truth is that this is one of those orchestras in which all are stars.”

“So clearly these young players were inspiring her [Mitsuko Uchida] as much as us. In Bartók’s Divertimento, they had the stage to themselves, and they seized their moment. This wonderful piece, which marries a joy in Eastern European folk music with frightening intimations of a coming nightmare (the piece was written in 1939), has rarely seemed so vivid and alive.”
