Jean-Yves Thibaudet & Gautier Capuçon premiere Dubugnon double concerto

Richard Dubugnon’s new double concerto for piano, cello and orchestra – Eros athanatos – was written for Jean-Yves Thibaudet, and Gautier Capuçon. The pair will premiere the piece this weekend with Ludovic Morlot and co-commissioning orchestra West Australian Symphony Orchestra (12 Oct and 13 Oct). 

Following this world premiere, Thibaudet and Capuçon will perform the piece with Antwerp Symphony Orchestra and Dima Slobodeniouk (16 and 17 Nov), WDR Sinfonieorchester and Michael Sanderling at Ruhr Piano Festival (06 June 2019), and Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France and Mikko Franck (13 June 2019). 

“This work was imagined in 2011 for Jean-Yves Thibaudet and Gautier Capuçon, who both wanted a Concerto from me. They are great friends and regular music partners, so I thought it would be unique to write a double Concerto for both of them, combining their sound, powerful expressivity and virtuosic technique with the orchestra …The French colours, transparency in the harmonies and subtlety of rhythm in Eros athanatos were particularly designed to suit the exquisite Gallic taste of the two dedicatees”
