HarrisonParrott brings four international orchestras to the BBC Proms and Edinburgh International Festival this summer.
Proms engagements feature Xian Zhang’s debut in the festival - as one of only two female conductors this year to lead a full evening Prom at the Royal Albert Hall. Zhang conducts the Sinfonica di Milano Giuseppe Verdi (also known as LaVerdi), of which she is Music Director. The concert, on 5 September, also features tenor Joseph Calleja in a selection of Verdi arias from operas including I Vespri Siciliani, La traviata and Simon Boccanegra. Tchaikovsky’s Manfred Symphony makes up the second half of the programme.
On 15 July, the Bamberger Symphoniker, conducted by Jonathan Nott, appears at the BBC Proms. The programme consists of Mahler’s Symphony No.5, preceded by the UK premiere of Helmut Lachenmann’s Tanzsuite mit Deutschlandlied - featuring the Arditti Quartet, renowned interpreters of the work.
Also at the Proms, on 1 September, the Orchestre de Paris with Music Director Paavo Järvi perform a programme of Arvo Pärt’s Cantus in memoriam Benjamin Britten, Britten’s Violin Concerto, with soloist Janine Jansen, Berlioz’ Overture Le Corsaire, and Saint-Saëns’ Symphony No.3 (Organ).
At the Edinburgh International Festival, the Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich and Chief Conductor David Zinman give two concerts at the Usher Hall. On 24 August, they perform a programme consisting of Brahms’ Violin Concerto, with soloist Frank Peter Zimmermann, and Bruckner’s Symphony No.3. On 26 August they perform Brahms’ Ein Deutsches Requiem, with the Edinburgh Festival Chorus and soloists, soprano Rachel Harnisch and baritoneFlorian Bösch.
