Gramophone picks five releases from HP artists as its top December discs
Gramophone magazine has selected five releases featuring six HarrisonParrott artists among its top recordings of December.
Two new naïve recordings are featured. In the first, violinist Patricia Kopatchinskaja and conductor Peter Eötvös perform concertos by Bartók, Ligeti and Eötvös himself. The release was also highly praised in France’s Télérama magazine.
The second naïve disc features Nikolai Lugansky performing Rachmaninov’s Piano Sonatas, which was also awarded an International Record Review ‘IRR Outstanding’ accolade this month.
Gramophone also picked Neeme Järvi’s Chandos disc of choral works by Hubert Parry both as a ‘Gramophone Choice' for the month, and as a Critics Choice 2012 – an accolade also extended to Harry Christophers’ recording of James MacMillan’s Miserere with The Sixteen on Coro, which received five stars in BBC Music Magazine.
Also included in Gramophone’s top December releases is Alison Balsom’s ‘Sound the Trumpet’ – a disc of music for natural trumpet with the English Concert and Trevor Pinnock on EMI Classics – and a BelAir Classiques DVD of Berg’s Wozzeck from the Bolshoi Theatre, with baritone Georg Nigl in the title role.
