Vladimir Ashkenazy leads the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin on an ambitious tour of South America in May, conducting a series of concerts in Brazil and Argentina.

In Sao Paulo, Ashkenazy and orchestra perform a children's concert at the Auditorio Ibirapuera (12 May) before giving two performances of Beethoven, Shostakovich and Mahler at the city's Theatro Municipal on 14 & 15 May.

The orchestra also perform a unique open air concert with the Sao Paulo Youth Orchestra on 13 May as part of a pioneering project - 'Music on the Road'. In preparation for the event, Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester musicians have given virtual workshops to the youth orchestra using the video conferencing software Skype and have also held a short film contest as part of the project. In Argentina, the orchestra and their former Music Director perform at the Teatro el Circulo, Rosario (17 May) before concluding the tour with a performance at Buenos Aires' iconic Teatro Colon on 18 May.

The tour comes immediately after performances in Berlin, where Ashkenazy and the orchestra are joined by pianist Jean-Efflam Bavouzet to perform Liszt's Piano Concerto No. 2. Ashkenazy and Bavouzet also appear together in June this year with the NHK Symphony Orchestra in Tokyo.
