Osmo Vänskä conducts Shanghai and Guangzhou Symphony Orchestras in Sibelius, Grieg and Berlioz
27/2/2015
On 7 March Osmo Vänskä returns to China to conduct the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, joined by Alice Sara Ott making her debut with the orchestra. The programme opens with Grieg’s Piano Concerto, and is followed by Berlioz’s Symphonie Fantastique.
Vänskä then makes his debut with the Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra (14 March), conducting an all-Sibelius programme which features Symphony No.1.
The concerts follow a number of recent performances by Vänskä celebrating the 150th anniversary of Jean Sibelius — including with the Sinfónica de Galicia and Iceland Symphony Orchestra. In February, he also conducted the world premiere of a new selection of Sibelius’ incidental music for Shakespeare’s The Tempest with the Minnesota Orchestra, which featured narration by Joe Dowling, Artistic Director of Minneapolis’ Guthrie Theater.
