In the summer of 2019, and across the 2019/20 season, HarrisonParrott is delighted to bring Anthony Roth Costanzo’s “ARC: Glass/Handel” to European audiences. An innovative programme marrying the music of Philip Glass with George Frideric Handel and available in variable formats to suit every venue; from a one-hour full multi-media visual spectacle to straight concert performance with chamber orchestra or small ensemble to semi-staging with backdrop video projection, dance and/or live painting.
The premiere presentation of the programme took place in September 2018 at The Barnes Foundation as part of Opera Philadelphia’s annual modern music festival, O18 and to coincide with the international release of the Grammy-nominated ‘ARC: Glass/Handel’ on Decca Gold. In collaboration with New York-based art and fashion multimedia company Visionaire, acclaimed artist George Condo, Tony Award-winning choreographer Justin Peck and including video projections created by a glittering array of directors and artists including Tilda Swinton, Mark Romanek, Pix Talarico and Academy Award-winner James Ivory, this boundary-pushing project has attracted unprecedented media interest across North America and has firmly established Roth Costanzo as a major driving force in bringing opera to a wider, more diverse and multi-generational audience.
“Roth Costanzo is the one thing dominating your attention.”
“a unique spectacle for the magnetic countertenor”
Widely acclaimed for his innate creativity and unique timbre, Anthony’s recent appearances in Europe include Apollo in Britten’s Death in Venice at Teatro Real Madrid – to be released on DVD by Naxos in 2018 – Prince Go-Go in Ligeti’s Le grand macabre with both the London Symphony Orchestra and Berliner Philharmoniker under Sir Simon Rattle, Angel/Spirit of the young man in Saariaho’s Only the sound remains at Finnish National Opera, and stand-out debut performances as Philip Glass’ Akhnaten at English National Opera. Acclaimed for his “touchingly vulnerably” portrayal (The Telegraph), Anthony reprises the role of Akhnaten in London in February 2019.
