OVERVIEW
The Youth Symphony Orchestra of the Commonwealth of International States was created under the aegis of the IFESCCO – the Intergovernmental Foundation for Educational, Scientific and Cultural Cooperation of the member states of the CIS, former constituent countries of the Soviet Union.
The aims of the Orchestra are to promote the benefits of cross-border cultural collaboration, furthering the links between the member states. The Orchestra gathered together for the first time in November 2007 in the capital city of Kazakhstan, Astana. Such was the success of this initial performance that a firm foundation was set for the continued development of the concept and the Orchestra gathered once again on 13 September 2008 in the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatoire. The Orchestra also marked the 65th anniversary of the end of Second World War with performance in the General Assembly Hall of the United Nations in New York and at the headquarters of NESCO in Paris.
