PROJECTS

Gretchen Parlato, Becca Stevens and Laura Mvula sing Gershwin

Troy Miller re-imagines some classics from the Gershwin song book such as Embraceable YouSummertime and I got Rhythm. Miller has already collaborated with orchestras including the London Symphony Orchestra, Philharmonia and BBC Concert orchestras to bring some of these orchestrations to life. These spectacular and intriguing arrangements of timeless songs are combined with the electrifying solo voices of Gretchen Parlato, Becca Stevens and Laura Mvula (or similar combination).

These award-winning singers performed in previous shows which were a huge success and one of the aims of this project is to feature the orchestra with a contemporary and cinematic presentation in a vocal/orchestral extravaganza!

Laura Mvula Orchestral Evening

Classically trained MOBO Award-winning Laura Mvula’s albums Sing to the Moon (2013) and The Dreaming Room 2016) are presented with full orchestra, arranged and conducted by Troy Miller. This project will be premiered on 21 July 2017 at the Barbican with the London Symphony Orchestra.

“I never imagined I would be in a position where I could have an orchestra play my music,” Mvula said. “It’s totally overwhelming for me because it‘s what I imagined, but more. Like bringing something truly to life.”

A chance to hear Mvula’s music in spectacular symphonic settings, the way they were intended.

Gregory Porter Orchestral Evening

American singer, songwriter, and actor Gregory Porter won the 2014 Grammy Award for Best Jazz Vocal Album, Liquid Spirit.

He’s graced stages from the Pyramid Stage of Glastonbury Festival to Carnegie Hall. The Daily Telegraph said "Porter has one of the most easy-on-the-ear voices in popular music, a creamy baritone that flows thick and smooth across a rich gateaux of juicy melody."

This evening will feature a mix of original music, standards and arrangements with full or chamber orchestra arranged and conducted by Troy Miller and performed by Gregory Porter.

Reviews

"Framed by Miller's clever arrangements - rousing strings, dynamic percussion, moments of quiet lushness - and underscored by her 5-piece band, Mvula's voice mesmerised and often astounded." (*****Evening Standard, July 2017)
