The Tonhalle Orchestra Zürich consists of just over 100 musicians and gives approximately 100 concerts every season, featuring about 50 different programmes. Guest performances in Switzerland, concert tours of the international musical capitals in both the Old and the New Worlds, and especially numerous CD recordings, including seven CDs of orchestral works by Richard Strauss, the Schumann symphonies, Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis as well as all the composer’s overtures and solo concertos have served to consolidate the orchestra’s excellent reputation among audiences and critics alike.
David Zinman was appointed Music Director and Chief Conductor of the Tonhalle Orchestra Zürich in 1995, where his creative programming, successful tours to Europe, North America and Japan, and a Beethoven Symphony cycle for Arte Nova, have made a considerable impression to great critical acclaim.
