Spira mirabilis complete residency at Aldeburgh Festival
Spira mirabilis have completed their residency as part of the 64th Aldeburgh Festival of Music and the Arts to great acclaim. Following their performances of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 4 on Saturday 11 June they performed Schubert’s Symphony No. 4 on 15 June at Snape Maltings Concert Hall. The performance also included the chance for audience members to ask the ensemble questions post-concert about their unorthodox and exciting playing style.
The Times' Richard Morrison was fascinated by their approach:
“On Saturday morning came an exhilarating performance of Beethoven’s Fourth Symphony by Spira Mirabilis, the young, multinational high-flyers who meet in an Italian village to rehearse a single work intensively for days, then deliver it without a conductor. Such rapport, flexibility, vivacity and virtuosity! It showed what’s possible in a musical world where idealism and flair have yet to be diluted by compromise and routine.”
