Spira mirabilis appointed Cultural Ambassadors by European Union
Spira mirabilis have been appointed as Cultural Ambassadors of Europe by the EACEA, the Executive Agency of the European Union.
Founded just four years ago, Spira's multicultural nature underlines their European Ambassadorship, consisting of players from countries across the European Union. Their award consists of a generous €120,000 grant for the group's activities in 2012.
Commenting on the award, founding members Lorenza Borrani and Timoti Fregni said "We are happy and flattered to receive international recognition in the form of this grant by the European Union. We are determined to work even harder to meet this exciting challenge, to use the precious help afforded to us to continue doing what we have done since our inception, making music without compromises to preserve our goals.
This season sees Spira perform at the Queen Elizabeth Hall at London's Southbank Centre on 25-26 May as part of the Shell Classic International Series.
