Santtu-Matias Rouvali takes up role as Chief Conductor of Tampere Philharmonic
Santtu-Matias Rouvali takes up his role as Artistic Director and Chief Conductor of the Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra in their season-opening concert on 6 September. He conducts a programme including Strauss’ Der Rosenkavalier Suite and Saariaho’s Clarinet Concerto, with soloist Kari Kriikku - with whom he has performed a number of times including at the celebration of Saariaho's 60th Birthday in Mexico. The final work in the programme is Dvořák’s Symphony No.9. Rouvali’s season with the orchestra features repertoire including Beethoven, Nielsen, Shostakovich and the Finnish premiere of Lasse Thoresen’s Cello Concerto Passage through Three Valleys.
Rouvali also becomes Principal Guest Conductor of the Copenhagen Philharmonic from the current season, conducting his first concert with the orchestra in this role in October.
