Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra complete first tour to China
The Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, with their Music Director Vasily Petrenko, have completed their first ever tour to China. Acclaimed for their performances and recordings of both Russian and British repertoire, they brought to their Chinese audiences Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 15, Elgar’s Enigma Variations and Cockaigne Overture. Demonstrating their versatility, Petrenko and the Orchestra gave a gala concert at the Shanghai EXPO, with an eclectic mix of repertoire featuring an array of artists from Liverpool and the North West of England. Alongside these concerts, and marking what would have been his 70th birthday last week, John Wilson took the baton and conducts two performances of the "John Lennon Songbook", a programme devised and created by the orchestra, featuring singers Claire Martin, Curtis Stigers and narrator and singer Mark McGann.
