Pollini, Tetzlaff and Paavo Järvi win Deutscher Schallplattenpreis

16 February 2012

Maurizio Pollini, Christian Tetzlaff and Paavo Järvi have been awarded prizes by the Deutschen Schallplatten Kritik. Given each quarter to the most outstanding releases on disc, the awards are regarded as some of the most prestigious in Germany.

Paavo Järvi's Ondine disc of Schumann and Mendelssohn with hr-sinfonieorchester and violinist Christian Tetzlaff tops the Concerto category. The jury's Norbert Hornig remarked on Tetzlaff's "High Voltage" playing.

In the "Keyboard" category, Maurizio Pollini's Chopin disc for Testament, recorded in 1960 but recently re-released, is praised by the jury'sPeter Cossé: "Pollini's impressive technique is an essential aspect of his artistic mentality...even his breathtakingly fast tempos in the virtuoso works don't prevent Pollini immense care and attention to detail."
