Penderecki awarded honorary doctorate by Indiana University

13 November 2017

Krzysztof Penderecki is awarded an honorary doctorate from Indiana University, adding to his long list of accolades conferred by numerous universities.

President Michael A. McRobbie, who presented the composer-conductor with the doctorate at a special ceremony held on Monday 13 November at the University’s Simon Music Center in Bloomington, commented: "Krzysztof Penderecki is one of the most influential composers and performers of the past 50 years. His outstanding lifetime of achievement and remarkable talent continues to shape global musical culture and will certainly have a timeless impact."

As part of his visit to Indiana University, Penderecki also conducted the IU Jacobs School of Music Oratorio Chorus and Philharmonic Orchestra in a performance of his seminal St Luke Passion and took part in a symposium dedicated to the political and historical significance of this work.
