Osmo Vänskä and Martin Grubinger perform with Wiener Symphoniker
Osmo Vänskä and Martin Grubinger return to the Wiener Symphoniker for concerts at the Konzerthaus Wien on 17 and 18 June. They give the Austrian premiere of Kalevi Aho’s Sieidi, Concerto for Percussion and Orchestra. The remainder of the programme features Arvo Pärt’s Cantus in Memory of Benjamin Britten and Sibelius’ Symphony No.1.
Vänskä also conducted the world premiere of Aho’s Sieidi in 2012, with the London Philharmonic Orchestra and Colin Currie. His visit to Vienna follows a successful week with the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra in May, where he conducted another world premiere – Luca Francesconi’s Vertical Invader.
