Minnesota Orchestra & Osmo Vänskä

The Minnesota Orchestra returns to Europe for week-long tour of four countries

12 August 2016

The Minnesota Orchestra, under the baton of its Music Director, Osmo Vänskä, returns to Europe after a six-year absence, embarking on a four-concert tour.

Performances begin at Finland’s Sibelius Concert Hall in Lahti on 21 August, where Vänskä leads the Minnesota Orchestra for the first time since 2004.

The tour continues with concerts at three of Europe’s major summer festivals: the Edinburgh International Festival on 23 August, Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw on 24 August, as part of Robeco SummerNights, and the Tivoli Festival in Copenhagen on 26 August.

Having recently made his critically acclaimed BBC Proms debut, Finnish violinist Pekka Kuusisto joins the orchestra to perform Prokofiev’s Violin Concerto No.1 in Lahti and Amsterdam and Sibelius’ Violin Concerto No.1 in Edinburgh and Tivoli. The orchestra and Vänskä also perform Beethoven’s Symphonies No.3 and 5, Sibelius’ Pohjola’s Daughter and Stucky’s Rhapsodies for Orchestra.

Commenting on the forthcoming tour, Osmo Vänskä said: “It is important for us to come to Europe to show that the Minnesota Orchestra is playing better than ever. Every player is totally committed and always giving their best. That is why it is such a great place to be.”

HarrisonParrott is delighted to manage the tour.
