Kodo brings 2014 project, One Earth Tour: Legend, to Europe

19 December 2013

World-renowned Japanese ensemble Kodo bring their 2014 tour to Europe. Titled One Earth Tour: Legend, this is the first project for new Artistic Director Tamasaburo Bando.

The tour begins with five performances at the Théâtre du Châtelet, Paris, from 7 to 12 February. Then follows an eight-date tour of England and Ireland, with performances in Poole (15), Birmingham (17), Liverpool (19), Manchester (20), Dublin (22 & 23), Gateshead (25) and Brighton (28 February). The Ensemble returns to Europe the following month for further performances in Uppsala, Sweden and in Helsinki on 22 and 26 March respectively.

Tamasaburo Bando writes about the project: “I wanted to create a performance that pays homage to the profound expressions of Kodo to date, that adds splendour and levity, and harmonizes all elements into a single flow that undulates throughout the programme. My aim is simply to create a performance that will transport the audience into an inspiring alternate reality, even if just for a brief spell.”

Based on Sado Island in northern Japan, this internationally-renowned group of drummers has been dazzling audiences worldwide for over three decades. The ensemble strives to both preserve and reinterpret traditional Japanese performing arts in spectacular theatrical shows which range from energetic physically-charged ensemble drumming to smaller groups and soloists featuring a variety of authentic instruments as well as dance.
