Janine Jansen stars in Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra 125th anniversary gala
Janine Jansen appears in the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra’s 125th anniversary gala concert on 10 April. The concert, conducted by the orchestra’s Chief Conductor Mariss Jansons, also features baritone Thomas Hampson and pianist Lang Lang, and will be televised internationally.
Janine performs Saint-Saens’ Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso, and all three soloists perform in the world premiere of Bob Zimmerman’s Variations on ‘Komt vrienden in het ronden’ (a Dutch folk song). The programme also includes music by Wagner, Mahler, Prokofiev, Tchaikovsky and Strauss.
Later in the week, Janine is in Italy, performing Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto with the Orchestra del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino. The concerts, conducted by Zubin Mehta, are on 13 & 14 April in Florence and 15 April in Milan. She performs the work again, with the hr-Sinfonieorchester, conducted by Paavo Järvi, on 17, 18 & 19 April.
Also as part of the Orchestra’s 125th anniversary, the RCO and Mariss Jansons travel to South America in June for five concerts as part of a celebratory world tour throughout 2013.
