26 November 2014

HarrisonParrott is delighted to welcome Icelandic pianist Víkingur Ólafsson to its roster for worldwide general management.

Described by The New York Times as a “splendid pianist” and by Piano News as an “immense talent”, Víkingur is already a star in his native Iceland having won all the major prizes in his country, including Musician of the Year three times at the Icelandic Music Awards.

Víkingur has collaborated with international conductors and artists such as Vladimir Ashkenazy, Ilan Volkov, Philip Glass, Martin Fröst and Pekka Kuusisto. He has performed with Norwegian Radio, Ulster, and Juilliard orchestras, and at various music festivals including Busoni, MITO SettembreMusica, Nordic Cool (Washington DC), Vinterfest and International Chamber Music Festival Stavanger.

As well as his work as a soloist, Víkingur is the driving force behind a number of innovative musical projects. He is the founder and Artistic Director of Reykjavík Midsummer Music, which was selected as Musical Event of the Year 2012 at the Icelandic Music Awards in its first year and he recently worked on a critically acclaimed Icelandic television series, Útúrdúr.

Víkingur has released three albums to date on his own record label Dirrindí. These include two solo discs, and a CD/DVD release of Winterreise with bass Kristinn Sigmundsson which won the Album of the Year award at the Icelandic Music Awards 2012.

Víkingur’s 2014/15 season includes an extensive tour of Canada performing Bach’s Goldberg Variations and concerts with Iceland Symphony Orchestra, Turku Philharmonic, Dalarna Sinfonietta and Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra. It also features the premiere of BIRDS project, a multimedia collaboration with video artist Yann Malka, and a collaboration with artist Roman Signer for the finale of Transart Festival in Bolzano.
