Gil Shaham wins Instrumentalist of the Year
Musical America has named violinist Gil Shaham its Instrumentalist of the Year. The honour forms part of the 2012 Musical America awards - given since 1960 for artistic excellence and achievement in the arts. The prizes will be presented in a special ceremony at New York's Lincoln Center on 5 December. Announcing the awards, Susan Elliott wrote: "Shaham is a brilliant and passionate player, bringing a special kind of humanism to his interpretations."
Gil Shaham continues to perform internationally with the world's major orchestras. His recent performances with the Philharmonia Orchestra and with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra at London's BBC Proms drew particular acclaim. This season includes a return to the London Symphony Orchestra for two concerts with Michael Tilson Thomas.
